Don't just assume your manager is SMARTER than you

Tuesday at work ... I was told that some stuff that I was supposed to get done by the 15th now has to be done by the 4th!! Talk about planning ... To think that the management people are the ones making so much money when the basic glue of an enterprise called "communication" is so bad. And how do I exact my revenge? Simple I bill more hours to the project , they pay for my overtime ... I get more $$$ ... I put more of that money into my summer plans

So my manager has been going through a tough couple of weeks with his mom back in Canada getting a heart-attack ... he's been out for 2 weeks now. So my manager's manager has been observing my workload & my issues. And when I tell him that I have only 5 days to complete something that initially we thought had 20 days he does the inevitable ... He assigns me 4 (not one or two or three but four!) off-shore designers and developers from WIPRO sitting in Bangalore, India. Was I supposed to say "Thank You" or #%$!*&^%$#

Since Wednesday I've been talking to these guys at 8 in the morning, 'cos that seems to be the only sane time to set up conference calls with our "team-mates" on the other side of the world. I've been sending e-mails every now & then clearing their questions and doubts. I am more or less repeating my whole problem in little bits & pieces to these folks, who are actually supposed to be reducing my workload by helping me. I have got so less of my own work done, that I have to go tomorrow and do some work on my own alone.

Seriously ... I don't mind companies acting cheap and outsourcing or off-shoring all this work. But do it properly!! Have them come out here first and see how it is expected to be done and then let them go back & do it. They make stupid decisions to save money, then they have communication problems with deadlines, then they think they are helping me out by assigning more ignorant team members ... and to still think these managers are getting paid more! Where is the justice?!?

Having said all this, me like a good boy will keep quiet and still get the work done for them by 4th as promised.
